McKinley Stormwater Pump Station Improvements Project
Project Overview
The project will consist of upgrades and improvements to the McKinley Stormwater Pump Station, located along Maple Trail Woods.
This pump station is critical to stormwater relief efforts and the improvements will provide backup pumps, power, and improved controls and monitoring.
The City of Elmhurst held a virtual public meeting to provide information on construction to improve the McKinley Stormwater Pump Station.

The new roof is near completion at the electrical building. At the pump station, walls for the new stormwater pump spillway were poured and formwork is underway for the surface. Pumping equipment and piping is being delivered to the site for upcoming installations.
In addition to the pump station work, lining repairs of the existing storm sewers to the station began on 6/26 at the south end of Sunnyside Avenue. The goal of the project is to repair damage, eliminate leaking joints, and provide a new, smooth pipe interior for the existing pipe surfaces to provide better drainage moving forward. Below are photos of the existing brick sewer and a sewer with a new, smooth lining.
Over the next two weeks, work will continue to complete the pump station concrete and installation of new pumping equipment will begin. The sewer lining work is anticipated to start back up on July 10th and finish that week. The station will remain in service and operate as normal throughout construction.

Next Update: Week of 6/26/2023
The concrete and masonry work has been completed at the electrical building and the roofing is currently being installed. At the pump station, the concrete forms were removed from the expansion and the area was graded. Formwork to build a new concrete spillway for the new pump has begun and is expected to be completed in the next 2 weeks.
Over the next 2 weeks, work will continue to construct the pump station and electrical building expansions, weather permitting. Roofing over the electrical building is scheduled to be completed. With the wet well expansion walls in place, new pump equipment is ready to be installed once delivered on site. Pump equipment is beginning to arrive on site and remaining items are expected in late June/early July. In the meantime, work will continue to install the new concrete spillway and complete concrete repairs on the exiting station. The station will remain in service and operate as normal throughout construction.
